WinMTRCmd is a small and useful application hat was especially designed to provide you with a simple means of performing traceroute and ping queries for any given IP address or domain. The application is a front-end for MTR, the multipurpose traceroute utility. In addition to its ability to trace the paths taken by packets through the Internet, it can generate ping reports for IP and host addresses as well as perform Netstat queries and display information on TCP connections. MTR is provided in a variety of flavors, with a Windows GUI, GUI, GTK, and wxWindows front-ends, as well as command line interfaces and Unix versions. WinMTRCmd - Command line interface to MTR utility. MTR is a tool for performing interactive traceroute and ICMP Ping requests on a local network or to a given target (IP address or domain). The tool can be used to determine network latency issues and general bandwidth bottlenecks. User Guide: Usage: 1. Download WinMTRCmd.exe. 2. Start the installation. 3. Download and extract the installation tarball to the root directory of your hard disk. 4. Run WinMTRCmd.exe. 5. On the main screen press the Set Parameters button. 6. Under the General tab enter the IP address or domain name you wish to test. 7. On the Port tab enter the port (port) you wish to test. 8. Choose the method of operation you wish to use. 9. On the Network tab enter the number of hops you wish to perform (3 or more by default). 10. On the Down tab choose the command you wish to execute. 11. Press the OK button to execute the command. 12. All that is necessary is to simply unzip the downloaded file and run the file in order to run the program, which is what we do in this guide. Why is WinMTRCmd so special? WinMTRCmd is a tool specifically designed for performing traceroute queries but other commands are also supported. The tool can be used in a number of scenarios. If you have a specific IP address that you want to test, you can use the WinMTRCmd utility to perform the test quickly. It can also be used to run simple tests, the first by itself or in conjunction with the WinMTRCmd utility. A final and most common scenario is to use the tool as a simple ping utility. This is what I did when I downloaded WinMTRCmd for this guide. The first step is to launch the WinMTRCmd program by double clicking on the file. The application will start automatically and on a console window will appear in which the user is prompted to enter the IP address of the target that he wants to test and the name of the file (ping.exe in this case) that will be used as the program to perform the test. You can test the application by going to the Download area and checking out the zip file. After a few seconds a window will appear in which you will see a graphical representation of the results of the test. The program consists of a series of buttons and a small toolbar to easily run multiple tests. You can use the buttons in the toolbar to perform other traceroute or ping tests, for example. If you click on the button named "Settings" you will be redirected to a nice GUI that allows you to set the IP address, the port number and other parameters of the host that you want to test.
